PCI thanks all of the supporters and volunteers for their work in preparing for our 4th Annual Walk for Water, scheduled for March 18. Due to unpredicted extremely high winds and as a result potentially unsafe conditions, we decided to cancel the event that morning. We share everyone’s deep disappointment of this result caused by the extreme weather.
However, even without the actual walk, the event team was able to raise nearly $50,000 for PCI’s global clean water programs, as well as spread awareness about this vital health issue to millions of people through radio spots, shopping mall promotions, and a marketing and social media campaign.
We thank the 17 local high schools and their students for all their hard work!

PCI is hosting the fourth annual Walk for Water event to acknowledge UN-sanctioned World Water Day. Walkers are encouraged to carry buckets of water along the 5k path, simulating the journey made by millions in developing countries every day.
This event is held to raise awareness about the global water crisis and to offer local conservation tips and advice. PCI is committed to helping improve the lives of the more than 1.1 billion people who do not have access to clean, potable water. Around the world, the burden of collecting water most commonly falls to women and girls, who typically spend at least six hours a day walking to water sources and carrying 44 pounds containers over extreme distances. The lack of access to clean drinking water leads to disease, absence from school and work, sickness and death. In fact, waterborne diseases are the responsible for more deaths than WAR and are the leading killer for children under the age of five.
