PCI was honored to attend the CLASSY Awards on May 2nd, 2014 to represent the Women Empowered (WE) Initiative. Stay Classy; this year’s partner, the UN Foundation; and each of the sponsors put on an incredible awards ceremony, showcasing the work of the top nonprofits selected from over 3,800 submissions. Our program was selected as the winner of the sub-category Women’s Rights alongside globally-recognized organizations and went on as a finalist in the category of Human Rights & Social Justice.

This nomination, to us, represents the power that people have to change their own lives when given the tools, training and resources. Women in particular are incredible change agents and when socially and financially empowered, will provide a healthier, more hopeful future for themselves, their families and communities.

We are thankful that the world is recognizing women as the solution.

The impact of Women Empowered is multi-faceted; women come together to form savings groups so that they can take part in critical decision-making in the home, but also to act on issues they find important. These women are becoming leaders and community activists.

The early success of our program would not have been possible without the encouragement from our peers, supporters and friends. The nomination and subsequent category win is a testament to their shared belief that by empowering a woman, we will empower the world. While we did not take home the ultimate prize in Human Rights & Social Justice, it was an incredible honor to be showcased among organizations that are doing such critical work in communities around the world.

Currently, the program engages one ninety-five thousand participants across 12 countries, but our aim is much higher. By 2016, our goal is to transform the lives of 1 million women through the Women Empowered Initiative and we can’t wait to share it all with you.
