Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality
“I have seen that women now have the courage to be self-reliant. We talk about social issues, health and nutrition, domestic violence, kitchen gardens and other things. But it is not just merely a discussion. We look for solutions.”

Overview
Advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment is central to all that we do. Our work is guided by a commitment to women’s leadership, evidence-based programming and to ending all forms of discrimination.
Our Approach to Women’s Empowerment
Across our programs, PCI integrates strategies to put resources and decision-making into women’s hands, while targeting social norms and structural barriers that limit women’s choices and freedom.
Our economic empowerment initiatives help women expand their economic opportunities and increase their incomes, whether it’s providing aspiring entrepreneurs with basic business skills training or working with local businesses to increase women’s roles in value chains.
Programs like Women Empowered (WE) provide a platform for women to increase their confidence, exercise leadership skills, form social networks and engage in collective action.
Concerted efforts are needed to tackle persistent inequities in health outcomes. This is why our women’s health programs focus on connecting women to accurate information and quality, respectful services for reproductive and maternal health, HIV testing and treatment, and cervical cancer screening. We also support women in adopting life-saving health and nutrition behaviors for good maternal, newborn and child health.
Yet working with women alone is not enough to bring about gender equality.
